At Brewer Parks & Recreation, our Afterschool Program provides a safe, engaging, and fun environment where children can learn, play, and build lasting friendships.Each afternoon is filled with opportunities for:

Active gym and outdoor play
Hands-on messy projects (so you don't have to clean up at home!)
Homework assistance
Special events and seasonal activities
Plenty of smiling, laughing, singing, dancing, running, moving, and making memories!
Kindergarten – Grade 4
Our K–4 Afterschool Program is located at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center (318 Wilson Street). Students are transported by bus from school and arrive each afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m.Upon arrival, students check in, attendance is taken, and they enjoy an afternoon snack. From 3:30–5:00 p.m., children participate in a variety of structured activities that may include gym games, outdoor recreation, park time, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and other group gamesThe day concludes with supervised free-choice activities from 5:00–6:00 p.m. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m., our program closing time.
Grades 5–6

What Does the Afterschool Program Offer?

Hands-on messy projects (so you don't have to clean up at home!)

Kindergarten – Grade 4
Our K–4 Afterschool Program is located at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center (318 Wilson Street). Students are transported by bus from school and arrive each afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m.Upon arrival, students check in, attendance is taken, and they enjoy an afternoon snack. From 3:30–5:00 p.m., children participate in a variety of structured activities that may include gym games, outdoor recreation, park time, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and other group gamesThe day concludes with supervised free-choice activities from 5:00–6:00 p.m. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m., our program closing time.
Grades 5–6
Our Grades 5–6 Afterschool Program is also held at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center (318 Wilson Street). Students are transported by bus from school and arrive at approximately 2:10 p.m.Each afternoon begins with attendance and a snack, followed by supervised gym time. Students then participate in a dedicated homework period each day (if they have assignments). After homework time, students may enjoy a variety of recreational activities, creative projects, outdoor play, and organized games throughout the facility.From 5:00–6:00 p.m., students join the K–4 group for supervised free time in the game room before dismissal. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m.

Our 2026 fall adult volleyball leagues will run October and November with 8 regular season matches and the top 10 teams play a single elimination playoffs (1 - 2 weeks long).We are accepting teams and free agents. Yoga, Adult - Adult Yoga September 2026
This gentle yoga class will bring focus on strength, balance, mobility, alignment, posture - both on your feet and on the floor. Blending elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Restorative and Somatic Yoga, Tapping, and Myofascial Release, using intentional movements to awaken energy, restore functional movement, and nurture emotional well-being. Andrea will be using a variety of props such as a: tennis ball, elastic band, foam roller, yoga block, paper towel/small soft towel. These props will help us build flexibility, openness, relaxation starting at the feet and ending at the head. You’ll also explore relaxation techniques, meditation, and a variety of breathing techniques to calm and relax the body and clear the mind to support better sleep. Find your calm, move with purpose, and feel renewed in this uplifting class for adults. It's all about the mind-body connection!! Items needed: Yoga mat and small soft towel

Coffee with a Cop - Coffee With a Cop September
Coffee with a Cop is a welcoming community activity designed to bring local seniors together with Brewer law enforcement officers in a relaxed and friendly setting. Participants will enjoy an hour of conversation, storytelling, and a fun game while sipping coffee, tea, or other hot beverages.This program provides an opportunity for seniors to get to know local officers, ask questions, share experiences, and build positive connections within the community. It’s a casual and enjoyable way to strengthen relationships between older adults and local law enforcement while enjoying good conversation and a cup of coffee.

Yoga, Adult - Adult Yoga September 2026
This gentle yoga class will bring focus on strength, balance, mobility, alignment, posture - both on your feet and on the floor. Blending elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Restorative and Somatic Yoga, Tapping, and Myofascial Release, using intentional movements to awaken energy, restore functional movement, and nurture emotional well-being. Andrea will be using a variety of props such as a: tennis ball, elastic band, foam roller, yoga block, paper towel/small soft towel. These props will help us build flexibility, openness, relaxation starting at the feet and ending at the head. You’ll also explore relaxation techniques, meditation, and a variety of breathing techniques to calm and relax the body and clear the mind to support better sleep. This gentle yoga class will bring focus on strength, balance, mobility, alignment, posture - both on your feet and on the floor. Blending elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Restorative and Somatic Yoga, Tapping, and Myofascial Release, using intentional movements to awaken energy, restore functional movement, and nurture emotional well-being. Andrea will be using a variety of props such as a: tennis ball, elastic band, foam roller, yoga block, paper towel/small soft towel. These props will help us build flexibility, openness, relaxation starting at the feet and ending at the head. You’ll also explore relaxation techniques, meditation, and a variety of breathing techniques to calm and relax the body and clear the mind to support better sleep. Our K–4 Afterschool Program is located at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center (318 Wilson Street). Students are transported by bus from school and arrive each afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m.Upon arrival, students check in, attendance is taken, and they enjoy an afternoon snack. From 3:30–5:00 p.m., children participate in a variety of structured activities that may include gym games, outdoor recreation, park time, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and other group gamesThe day concludes with supervised free-choice activities from 5:00–6:00 p.m. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m., our program closing time.
Grades 5–6

Our 2026 fall adult volleyball leagues will run October and November with 8 regular season matches and the top 10 teams play a single elimination playoffs (1 - 2 weeks long).We are accepting teams and free agents. Captains please register and email Grace kassoits gkassotis@brewermaine.gov to share your roster. Teams will reach team status and secure a spot in the league once 6 people are registered. Leagues have a limited number of space. League days and number of games will depend on how many teams are registered. NEW REGISTRATION FORMAT - All players will register individually through MyRec. Students are transported by bus from school and arrive each afternoon at approximately 3:15 p.m.Upon arrival, students check in, attendance is taken, and they enjoy an afternoon snack. From 3:30–5:00 p.m., children participate in a variety of structured activities that may include gym games, outdoor recreation, park time, arts and crafts, STEM activities, and other group gamesThe day concludes with supervised free-choice activities from 5:00–6:00 p.m. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m., our program closing time.
Grades 5–6
Our Grades 5–6 Afterschool Program is also held at the Joseph L. Ferris Community Center (318 Wilson Street). Students are transported by bus from school and arrive at approximately 2:10 p.m.Each afternoon begins with attendance and a snack, followed by supervised gym time. Students then participate in a dedicated homework period each day (if they have assignments). After homework time, students may enjoy a variety of recreational activities, creative projects, outdoor play, and organized games throughout the facility.From 5:00–6:00 p.m., students join the K–4 group for supervised free time in the game room before dismissal. All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m.
Registration
Registration for the Afterschool Program is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis at the Brewer Parks & Recreation Department, located at 318 Wilson Street.Please note that registrations are not accepted online at this time.
Program Prerequisites
The Afterschool Program is open to students enrolled in Kindergarten through 6th grade.To ensure a safe and successful experience for all participants, students should:
Be able to use the restroom independently or with minimal assistance.
Be able to follow staff directions and participate safely in a group setting.
Be willing to participate in program activities and follow program expectations.
We proudly welcome students of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. Our goal is to provide an inclusive environment where every child feels safe, supported, and valued. While our staff are committed to helping each participant succeed, the Afterschool Program is designed as a group recreation program and is not a one-on-one support program. Students should be able to participate safely and successfully within established staff-to-child ratios and with the level of support our program is able to provide.

Learn the skills and etiquette of the Goju Karate Do style. Along with fitness, this program will further develop a student’s self confidence, self control and respect. Yoga, Adult - Adult Yoga October 2026
This gentle yoga class will bring focus on strength, balance, mobility, alignment, posture - both on your feet and on the floor. Blending elements of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Restorative and Somatic Yoga, Tapping, and Myofascial Release, using intentional movements to awaken energy, restore functional movement, and nurture emotional well-being. Andrea will be using a variety of props such as a: tennis ball, elastic band, foam roller, yoga block, paper towel/small soft towel. These props will help us build flexibility, openness, relaxation starting at the feet and ending at the head. You’ll also explore relaxation techniques, meditation, and a variety of breathing techniques to calm and relax the body and clear the mind to support better sleep. Find your calm, move with purpose, and feel renewed in this uplifting class for adults. It's all about the mind-body connection!! Items needed: Yoga mat and small soft towel

Adult Volleyball Leagues - Volleyball League - Ladies Rec - Fall
Our 2026 fall adult volleyball leagues will run October and November with 8 regular season matches and the top 10 teams play a single elimination playoffs (1 - 2 weeks long).We are accepting teams and free agents. Captains please register and email Grace kassoits gkassotis@brewermaine.gov to share your roster. Teams will reach team status and secure a spot in the league once 6 people are registered. Leagues have a limited number of space. League days and number of games will depend on how many teams are registered. NEW REGISTRATION FORMAT - All players will register individually through MyRec. Registration deadline is Monday, September 14.FREE AGENTS - If you are registering and not associated with a team please select the FREE AGENT GROUP during registration.
